Debris projects only. We refer construction, remodel, roofing and cleanout debris roll-offs, not recurring garbage service. Inside Abilene city limits the City handles regular trash, with short-term construction debris as its stated exception.

Debris roll-offs for Tye projects

Tye sits where the Missouri Pacific rail line, State Highway 84 and Farm Road 707 cross, about eight miles west of Abilene and just north of Dyess Air Force Base, according to the Handbook of Texas. The entry says the community incorporated in the mid-1950s, so Tye has its own city government separate from Abilene. It lies in Taylor County. The same entry says the community was once called Tebo and Hines before it became Tye in 1901, named for John P. Tye, its first postmaster.

Tye is an incorporated city, so county permit pages may not apply

The Taylor County Environmental Department says its floodplain development permits cover unincorporated areas. Because Tye is incorporated, that county page is not written for a Tye address, while the on-site sewage facility permit it describes applies to “all facilities in Taylor county.” We could not find an official City of Tye website, ordinance page or garbage contract, and our searches returned nothing. So we have not verified whether Tye requires a permit to set a roll-off, restricts street placement or has an exclusive hauler. We do not claim it either way, and the pro who answers your request should confirm it with the city.

Abilene’s rule, and why it still matters nearby

Abilene limits trash collection inside its city limits to its own division, with short-term construction debris as the stated exception (City of Abilene). Tye is outside those limits, so the rule does not directly govern a Tye address. It still matters in one way: the City’s drop-off sites, including the Citizens Convenience Station, require a current City of Abilene Municipal Services Statement, and so a Tye household cannot count on them for a remodel’s worth of debris.

What kind of projects show up in Tye

The Handbook entry describes trucking and oil as significant in the 1980s and 1,176 residents in 2020, down slightly from 1,314 in 2019. It is a small place on a busy highway corridor. We do not have Tye-specific request data, so we will not guess at what projects are most common. Whatever the project, the useful details for a quote are the debris type, the timing and where the container will sit.

Dyess AFB neighbors and base housing

The base itself began as Tye field, built south of the community during World War II for the Army Air Corps, then reactivated in 1956 as Abilene Air Force Base and renamed Dyess that year (Handbook of Texas, linked above). We refer work in the area around the base, and make no claim about work on base property, where access is controlled. Mention your project date on the form so the pro can plan around it.

Roofing and heavy loads

Shingles are among the items the Convenience Station refuses, and they are heavy for their volume, so roofing jobs are usually priced with a weight limit in mind. Our roofing guide explains squares, layers and the City of Abilene re-roof permit threshold. That threshold is the City’s own and is not a Tye rule, so check with Tye for a Tye address.

Placement

Highway-side lots can be tight. If the best spot is next to FM 707 or SH 84, remember that state and farm-to-market roads are not private driveways, so put the container on your own property when possible and ask before placing anything near a roadway. We could not find a published Tye rule for roll-offs.
