Debris projects only. We refer construction, remodel, roofing and cleanout debris roll-offs, not recurring garbage service. Inside Abilene city limits the City handles regular trash, with short-term construction debris as its stated exception.

Debris roll-offs for Buffalo Gap projects

Buffalo Gap is an incorporated community in central Taylor County, about 13 miles southwest of Abilene, where Farm Roads 89 and 1235 meet, per the Handbook of Texas. It was founded in 1877, served as the temporary county seat of Taylor County in 1874 and then formally from 1878, and lost the seat to Abilene in 1883 after the Texas and Pacific Railway based itself there. Texas Almanac figures in the entry put the population at 543 in 2020 and 569 in 2021, which makes this one of the smallest towns we serve.

Older stone buildings and remodel debris

The Handbook entry mentions an 1879 native-limestone jail restored in 1970 and listed on the National Register, and a Historical Village run by the McWhiney History Education Group. We bring it up for a practical reason: a town with 19th-century buildings has a lot of old structures. Remodeling one can mean plaster, lath, old roofing layers and masonry. Those are heavy and mixed loads, and the pro should know about them. We make no claim that a National Register listing, or any local historic rule, applies to any particular property; if your building is historic, ask the town and the county before demolishing anything.

Elm Creek and the Callahan Divide

The entry says the Callahan Divide, the topographic divide between the Brazos and Colorado basins, crosses the community east to west, and that Elm Creek runs through town. Creeks matter for a dumpster in two ways. Do not set a container in a drainage path or where runoff could carry debris toward the creek. And for construction near a creek, the Taylor County Environmental Department says it issues floodplain development permits for structures in unincorporated areas. Buffalo Gap is listed as incorporated, so that page may not cover an address inside the town limits, and we did not find the town’s own rule. Ask the town which office applies.

The Abilene rule and the City’s drop-off

The City of Abilene says it is the only authorized trash collector within Abilene city limits (City of Abilene), which does not extend thirteen miles southwest to Buffalo Gap. The City’s resident drop-offs require a driver’s license and a City of Abilene Municipal Services Statement (Convenience Station), so a Buffalo Gap household needs another route for material like shingles, tile or brick, which that station refuses.

What we could not find

We did not locate an official Buffalo Gap ordinance page, a garbage franchise, or a roll-off placement rule, so we are not stating any. The sources we did read describe geography and history and the county page. Expect the independent pro to ask for your address and to confirm what the town requires.

Visitor season and timing

The town markets itself as an old-time cultural center, and the Historical Village is a visitor destination. If your project sits near the village or on a busy weekend route, ask the pro about delivery windows so a truck does not block the road for visitors. This is general courtesy; we have no event schedule to cite.

Sizing a rural job

Small-town projects tend to be one-room remodels, a re-roof or an outbuilding teardown. The size guide explains how to pick a container and why weight can beat volume. Describe the roof layers or masonry to the pro to avoid overage charges.

Next steps

Send the form with your project and timing. Read construction debris, roofing debris or cleanout debris for your type of job.
