Cleanout & Renovation Debris Dumpsters in Abilene, TX
Garage, shed, deck, fence and flooring tear-outs tied to a project. A local independent pro follows up with size and price.
Debris projects only. We refer construction, remodel, roofing and cleanout debris roll-offs, not recurring garbage service. Inside Abilene city limits the City handles regular trash, with short-term construction debris as its stated exception.
Project cleanouts
This page is for cleanouts that come with a project: clearing a garage or outbuilding before a remodel, tearing out an old shed, deck or fence, ripping up carpet and flooring, or clearing debris after a repair. These are the jobs where a roll-off makes sense and a one-off truck bed does not. It is not for ongoing household garbage, which the City handles inside city limits.

What the City's drop-off sites will and will not take
Abilene residents have three City sites that cover pieces of a cleanout, and knowing their limits tells you what is left for a dumpster.
- Citizens Convenience Station, 2149 Sandy Street. Monday to Friday 8 am to 5 pm, Saturday 8 am to 3 pm, closed Sunday. Residents only; a driver's license and a current City of Abilene Municipal Services Statement are required. It accepts mattresses, couches, furniture, bulky items, TVs and electronics, with limits of 2 rolls of carpet and 50 feet of wood fencing per visit and about one pickup-bed load overall. It refuses bricks, concrete, rock, sheetrock, shingles, tile, commercial and multi-family loads, and food waste.
- Environmental Recycling Center, 2209 Oak Street. Tuesday to Friday 8 am to 4 pm, Saturday 8 am to noon. Residents only. It takes scrap metal, appliances (including those with refrigerant), cardboard, concrete and tires at $2 for passenger and $5 for truck tires, plus household hazardous waste such as paint and solvents in containers of one gallon or less.
- Abilene Brush Center. Tree limbs and yard waste, with limbs 6 to 8 feet long and no more than 18 inches in diameter. Free drop-off requires proof of Abilene residency; commercial accounts pay fees.
If your cleanout is larger than those limits, mixes categories, or includes a lot of lumber, flooring or drywall in one project, a roll-off collects everything at once instead of requiring three separate trips with three sets of ID.
Picking a size
Small garage or single-room cleanouts often fit in the smaller sizes (10 or 15 yard); larger clear-outs and tear-outs may need 20 yard or bigger. Fence and deck removal is bulky rather than heavy, so volume is usually the limit. A fence tear-out, for instance, is long lumber, and the City's commercial container guidance says not to load lumber that sticks out of the top, so cut it down before it goes in. See the size guide; availability depends on the pro.
Fence and deck specifics
The Convenience Station's 50-foot wood fencing limit per visit is a useful yardstick. A typical backyard fence run is longer than that, and a deck adds posts, joists and boards. If the total goes past a few trips, the dumpster is cheaper in time even if not in dollars.
Flooring and carpet
Carpet is accepted by the City at only 2 rolls per visit, so a whole-house flooring replacement usually exceeds it. Tile and wood flooring are heavier than carpet and tile is on the City's prohibited list at the Convenience Station, so a roll-off is the common answer. Keep adhesive buckets and any liquids out of the container.
Sort before you load
Even with a dumpster, a quick sort saves money. Pull out anything the City sites accept for free or low cost: appliances and scrap metal can go to the Recycling Center, tires there cost $2 each for passenger tires and $5 for truck tires (rims and tires larger than 24.5 inches are not accepted), and paint and solvents can go as household hazardous waste. What is left is the bulk that belongs in the roll-off.
Do not load
Batteries, tires, railroad ties and corrosive chemicals are commonly prohibited in roll-offs. Paint, solvents, fuel and appliances with refrigerant may also be restricted; ask your pro. Tires and appliances have their own City drop-off at the Recycling Center for residents.
